I grew up with Dennis and his brother Stephen. Stephen and I were classmates, as was Skipper Miller, at St. Agnes Parochial School in Old Jefferson, and he, Stephen and I attended Archbishop Rummel High School together.
Dennis, Skipper and I were thick as thieves Dennis’s high school junior year and Skip and my senior year. I remember when Dennis started dating Susan, when we spent time at her home having fun with her mom.
Then came college. Dennis and Skip finished at UNO and I finished at UL-Lafayette (then known as the University of Southwestern Louisiana). My wife, Monica, and I married in September 1970, the last time I remember seeing Dennis.
He was a highly intelligent guy, gifted artistically and in many other ways, full of common sense, and at the same time an unconventional thinker, with a very sharp sense of humor. In witnessing his interactions with his mom, I thought I was seeing a true battle of wits, of two keen intellects trying to gain the advantage.
I’m sorry I lost contact with him. He was the kind of guy deserving of sticking with for the long haul. Skipper tried to get us together a few years back, but for some reason it just didn’t work out. Condolences to Susan and the rest of the family.
